习近平指出，这是我第一次访问美丽的巴布亚新几内亚，也是中国国家主席首次访问巴布亚新几内亚，感谢巴新政府和人民的盛情欢迎。中巴新交往源远流长。1976年建交以来，中巴新各领域合作快速扩大，为两国关系进一步向前发展奠定了坚实基础。中方高度重视对巴新关系，希望我这次访问有助于进一步提升双边关系，拓展两国全方位交往，促进人民之间的友好交流，推动两国广泛领域务实合作取得丰硕成果。中方坚定致力于加强同包括巴新在内的太平洋岛国的团结合作。

达达埃表示，热烈欢迎习近平主席对巴布亚新几内亚进行国事访问，这是巴新多年来难得的盛事。巴新同中国有着深厚的友谊。100多年前，华人就来到巴新发展。巴新独立次年就同中华人民共和国建立起外交关系。习主席此访是两国关系的里程碑。感谢中方对巴新基础设施建设、教育、卫生等国家发展和民生领域的宝贵帮助，对巴新主办亚太经合组织领导人非正式会议的大力支持。巴新愿同中国共同努力，推动两国关系更上层楼。
