央视网消息：国新办今天（24日）举行新闻发布会，发布三北防护林体系建设40年综合评价报告。
三北防护林工程，是横跨我国东北、华北、西北的林业工程，是世界上最大的林业生态工程。中国科学院受国家林业和草原局委托，作为第三方评价机构，组织专业团队历时一年半，开展了三北防护林工程40年综合评价工作。
中国科学院副院长张亚平说，采用被国际学术界广泛认可的科学评价方法和指标体系开展综合评价，评价结果经过由领域内院士、专家组成的咨询组充分论证，最终编制出《三北防护林体系建设40年综合评价报告》
报告显示，40年来，三北防护林工程区森林面积净增加2156万公顷，森林覆盖率由5.05%提高到13.57%，森林蓄积量净增加12.6亿立方米。
国家林业和草原局副局长刘东生说，评价报告显示，三北工程建设40年来，工程区林草资源显著增加，风沙危害和水土流失得到有效控制，生态环境明显改善，发挥出了巨大的生态、经济和社会效益。
