Position: Digital Copy Editor
Location: Beijing, China
Start Date: June 2015 and beyond
Contract Length: 12 months (renewable)
**This position requires a pre-interview two-hour virtual editorial judgment assessment.**
We currently have a great opportunity for a Digital Copy Editor to edit content for CCTVNews, the English language program of China Central Television in Beijing.
Content to be copy edited will include -- but is not limited to ? articles, blog posts and SEO meta data written by both the Digital Team as well as reporters and international correspondents.
We need an experienced Copy Editor to proofread all of our online editorial content. We need a detail-oriented person who can thoroughly edit lots of copy each day (50+ posts), can spot missing and/or misspelled words from a mile away, and has excellent grammar and punctuation skills.
The ideal candidate will have that perfect mix of creative and operational -- be able to make sound editorial judgments on copy while also possessing strong organizational skills and a deadline-driven attitude to keep content moving.
You won’t be afraid to speak up when you see a headline that’s not optimized or a paragraph that doesn’t make sense. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Copy Editor will keep up on the latest web style guidelines and have a basic understanding of SEO, HTML and technical language.
REQUIREMENTS:
Native English speaker
Five years of post-graduate work experience
Ability to work independently
Excellent writing skills; ability to correct errors in grammar, spelling, usage and style
University degree in English, Communication, Journalism or related field
PREFERRED:
Experience editing web content at fast-paced digital environment
Interest in China, East Asia, current affairs, social media and pop culture
Personal or professional use of social media to promote content, including Facebook, WeChat and Twitter
