Press center for China's national conferences embraces austerity measures

Committed to well-rounded service and non-extravagant setup, the press center has been geared up for the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee slated to be held on March 3.

The same is the Media Center in Beijing that has hosted press conferences for the previous meetings. Gone are the banners, red carpets and flowers, which have been replaced by directory boards. It is the latest move for the country embracing austerity measures and doing away with lavish and corruptions.

"We use the old table cloths. We will still use the old ones if they are still serviceable, and refuse to purchase new ones if we can make do with the old ones," said Zhao Yudong, general manager of the Media Center.

Frugal facilities do not compromise the top-class service for journalists from around the world.

"We will always strive for the best in terms of services. For example, we have had multiple mock drills, made several plans and contingency plans, hoping to bring the quality service," said Zhao.
